Toyota Kills Off Scion 'Youth Brand' Focused On Small Cars
After nearly 13 years, Toyota's Scion "youth brand" is dead. Conceived as an entry-level nameplate to slot below the main Toyota brand, and focused on small cars, Scion will cease to exist as an independent brand in August. The move comes just after parent Toyota attempted to reinvigorate Scion...

With its iA subcompact sedan and iM compact hatchback launched, Scion is now starting to reap the benefits of its first mainstream new models in several years. But there's a third model coming, the brand's first-ever crossover utility vehicle, and today at the Los Angeles Auto Show, Toyota's "youth...

2016 Scion iA: Gas Mileage Review Of High-MPG Subcompact Sedan
Gas-mileage ratings are rising every year in virtually every vehicle segment, but most buyers expect smaller cars to deliver the highest numbers of all. That's true, to a point, although minicars like the Smart ForTwo two-seater and the Fiat 500 tend to be rated lower than longer and more...

2016 Scion iM: First Drive Of New Compact Hatchback
The 2016 Scion iM compact hatchback is the second two of new Scion models for 2016, joining the iA subcompact sedan. It's part of a much-needed new lineup that takes Toyota's youth brand away from funky "tall box" cars or 10-foot-long urban cars and gives it a product that competes in the heart of...

2016 Scion iA: First Drive Of 37-MPG Subcompact Sedan
The 2016 Scion iA is a four-door subcompact sedan that's Scion's first new vehicle since the ill-fated and now departed iQ minicar. One of two new vehicles for what tends to be termed "Toyota's beleaguered Scion brand," it's a fresh new entry with stellar fuel economy. It also happens to be great...

Why Toyota’s Scion Brand Isn’t Planning A Hybrid Or Electric Car Anytime Soon
Toyota’s Scion small-car brand has been called a laboratory; and it seems like the perfect testbed for new plug-in hybrid or full electric-car products. Yet you won’t see any of those from the brand—not even hybrids—in the lineup anytime soon. The reason why is that the...

Scion iQ To Be Pulled Off Sale As Tiny Car Fails To Sell In U.S.
With a handful of new models coming this year, Toyota's "youth brand" Scion is clearing the decks. One of the casualties is its unsuccessful iQ minicar. The little car, often mistaken for the two-seat Smart ForTwo but actually a "3 + 1-seater" (at least technically), never met its sales goals. Last...

Scion iM Concept Previews New Compact Five-Door Hatchback
The Scion iM is a thinly-disguised concept version of the Toyota "youth" brand's next model.

One week from today, Scion will take the wraps off a concept car that's a thinly disguised version of its first new production car in several years. The Scion iM Concept, to be formally introduced at the Los Angeles Auto Show next week, is a compact five-door hatchback that's clearly based on the European Toyota Auris model. DON'T MISS: Struggling Scion To Get Mazda2-Based Sedan, Auris-Based Hatchback, In Future? You can think of the Auris as a hatchback version of the enormously popular Toyota Corolla sedan, albeit with slightly edgier styling. Scion says the iM Concept offers "sporty looks...

Struggling Scion To Get Mazda2-Based Sedan, Auris-Based Hatchback, In Future?
Scion, the supposedly hip, youth-oriented brand established 10 years ago by Toyota, hasn't had a new volume model in seven years. Its overall sales fell last year even as the new-car market surged. Now, apparently, it's slated to get two new models--a subcompact hatchback based on the...

Toyota's Trendy Scion Small-Car Brand To Get New Products, After Long Drought
Be honest: Have you ever thought about buying a Scion? Toyota's trendy small-car brand has been distinctly neglected over the past several years, and fewer buyers each year are stepping into its dealers. But, says the executive who oversees Scion, fear not: There will be three new products coming...

Want A 2014 Scion iQ? Buy One Now; It May Die Next Year
Scion's slow-selling iQ minicar might not be long for this world, and the news has come from an unusual source. Aston Martin chief Ulrich Bez has revealed to Autocar that the Cygnet was canned because Toyota itself is stopping production of the iQ--sold in most markets under the Toyota brand, but...

Cheapest Car To Own Over Five Years? Scion iQ, Says KBB
What motivates you to buy a green car? For some, it's the desire to do just a little to help the environment. For others, it might be the technology. Some may simply want to save money. If the latter is a major factor, you may be interested to know that the cheapest car to run over five years is...

Toyota has announced a voluntary recall of Scion iQ vehicles from the 2012 and 2013 model years. In all, some 11,200 vehicles are affected. The recall centers around the weight sensor cables located beneath the iQ's front passenger seat. According to a press release from Toyota, those cables "can come into contact with an object placed near the seat track and become damaged as the front passenger seat slides forward or backward." Over time, this can cause damage to the cables. The problem is, those weight sensor cables control many of the iQ's safety systems, like the airbags and the seatbelt...

An Electric Toyota GT 86? Yes, But From A Tuning Shop
Toyota has hinted at the launch of an electric sports car in the past, and even has a couple of prototypes out testing, including one based on its legendary 2000GT. However, ask Toyota if it plans to launch an electric version of its GT 86 (sold here as the Scion FR-S), its budget rear-wheel drive...

Forget The Prius: 2012 Scion iQ Takes Google Street View Where Other Cars Can’t
When computer software giant Google first unleashed its camera-equipped Streetview cars in the U.S. to photograph and map her roads, it chose the humble Toyota Prius as its workhorse. That’s fine for modern-day cities with large, multi-lane roads, but in Europe, Google has discovered the...

Scion iQ Hybrid Possible - Report
In U.S. trim, the 2012 Scion iQ is capable of delivering fuel economy as high as 36 mpg in the city and 37 mpg on the highway. Those numbers are based on the iQ’s 1.3-liter four-cylinder engine, which is the only option for U.S. buyers. European buyers can opt for a 1.0-liter, three-cylinder...

2012 Scion iQ: The 37-MPG Minicar We Wish We Liked Better
Small cars are fun to drive--or at least they should be. But there may be a law of diminishing returns in adapting the very smallest cars from Asia and Europe to the U.S. market. We don't much like the driving experience in the Smart ForTwo, so we had high hopes for the 2012 Scion iQ minicar--the...

2012 Scion iQ: Best Non-Hybrid Gas Mileage? Not In Real World
Although a very small niche group might see minicars like the Scion iQ and Smart Fortwo as a fashion statement, or as a way to reap special parking or commuting benefits, for most Americans—and even a lot of green-car shoppers—it's quite frankly a little hard to see the point in getting...
