Somehow it's December already--how many shopping days left?--so it's time to look at the most popular posts on during the last 30 days. This month, just two are held over from October's most popular posts.

The new winners include items on the possible new Toyota Prius hybrid station wagon, and no fewer than three related to the always-popular clean diesel 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI. Here goes:

# 1: 2011 Toyota Prius Station Wagon to Feature Lithium-Ion Battery. As the world's most popular hybrid electric vehicle, the Toyota Prius always attracts interest, and the notion of new body styles after a decade of a sole Prius intrigued many readers. Bottom Line: Photos from Japanese magazines show a clear station wagon style, with markings that indicate at least one Prius wagon may be a model of the Plug-In Prius that Toyota will launch for fleet use in very small numbers by the end of the year.

2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI

# 2: Will the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI Be Diesel's Biggest Winner? This perennial favorite has been in second place for four months and counting. Bottom Line: The reviews are good, and the base price is just $21,990, so we think VW's 2010 Golf TDI will sell well. Thirty years of existing VW diesel owners already appreciate the car's benefits, and clean diesel is sloooowly gaining in awareness. But we think carmakers without previous diesel offerings in the U.S.--think Audi and BMW--may have a tougher time.

# 3: How Far Can the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI Go On a Tank of Diesel?  This one sneaked in just before the end of October, so we're inclined to wonder if it'll become a perennial favorite as well. Bottom Line: U.S. and Canadian regulations differ on how range is measured, but the 2010 Golf TDI can travel 600 and 750 miles on a tank of diesel fuel. Which is likely far longer than your bladder will hold out.

# 4: Volkswagen Jetta TDI: Much More Mileage Than the EPA Admits? One of our most useful reference articles, and a common source for potential clean diesel buyers. Bottom Line: Consistent reports from actual Jetta TDI drivers show that the EPA's official mileage numbers (29 mpg city, 40 mpg highway for the automatic; 30 and 41 mpg for the manual) are far too low. "Real world" mileage on the road seeems to run closer to 38 mpg city, 44 mpg highway.

2009 Toyota FT-EV II

# 5: Toyota Goes Steampunk With New Electric-Car Concept for Tokyo. Last month, we were startled that this obscure show car proved so popular. We're still shocked that it's stayed in the rankings for a second month. Bottom Line: The FT-EV II concept proves that Toyota still has its wack intact. Who would have expected a steampunk inspired interior that's missing such basics as a steering wheel from the maker of those oh-so-respectable Corollas and Camrys?

But the big message for us is the continuing popularity of the 2010 Volkswagen Golf TDI, which has ranked in the Top Five for most of the year. We'll look at sales figures and update you as part of our coverage of the events in green car news around the car world.
