The 2017 Subaru Impreza is one of the most fuel-efficient all-wheel-drive vehicles in the U.S. market, and has been for many years. The entirely redesigned 2017 Impreza rides on new underpinnings, but it's easily recognizable as an evolution of the company's popular compact sedan and hatchback. One of a few firsts for this year's Impreza, however, is that it's now built in Indiana rather than imported from Japan as previous generations were. All-electric Subaru crossover utility vehicle coming in 2021: Japanese report
Subaru, to which auto writers often attach the adjective "quirky," has been a quiet success story in the U.S. market, which now provides almost half its global sales. The company's crossover utility vehicles handle more like cars than those from other makers, and its sedans and hatchbacks are set...

Subaru Viziv Future Concept Previews Next-Generation Hybrid System
At this week's Tokyo Motor Show, Subaru displayed two separate concepts. The 2015 Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid has the lowest electric range of any plug-in vehicle sold in the United States: just 11 miles. It's also among the top-selling cars that plug in, with more than 40,500 delivered since it went on sale in February 2012. Now out of production, the plug-in Prius will be replaced by a new model that will go on sale sometime after the conventional 2016 Toyota Prius hybrid is unveiled this fall. The new 2015 Subaru Outback is now arriving at dealerships, and it's likely to continue the small Japanese maker's striking growth over the past five years. Like every other maker, though, Subaru has to make all of its vehicles more efficient--and to do so on a considerably smaller development...

2015 Subaru Legacy Video Road Test: 30 MPG, All-Wheel-Drive Mid-Size Sedan
The new 2015 Subaru Legacy is a stealth car: Other drivers may not pay it much attention, but it's sneaking up on the high-volume vehicles in the ultra-competitive mid-size sedan segment. The latest Legacy, redesigned and re-equipped for 2015, is the most competitive Subaru sedan yet--and it also...

If ever any car brand should have offered a hybrid before now, it would be Subaru. Now we've driven the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid, its very first hybrid offering. It's a much better car than the Crosstrek on which it's based, but little of that improvement has anything to do with the hybrid powertrain. While the hybrid Crosstrek gets better gas mileage in EPA ratings, the increase isn't huge--and we didn't see an increase in real-world testing against the non-hybrid Crosstrek we tested in December 2012. Fuel economy: Call it a draw? The 2014 XV Crosstrek Hybrid is rated at 31 mpg...

If any carmaker should already have had a hybrid in its lineup, it's Subaru. We've said that before, and before the end of the year, we'll know much more about the 2014 Subaru XV Crosstrek Hybrid that was unveiled at last spring's New York Auto Show. But it turns out that Subaru now has two unexpected hits on its hands. In Japan, the company announced, it received 5,850 orders for the Crosstrek Hybrid in just two weeks--fully 10 times the monthly sales target of 550 units. In other words, orders are almost double the total hybrid production allocated to the Japanese market from now through...

2014 Subaru Forester Aces New IIHS Crash Test; Other Crossovers, Not So Much
Last year, the Insurance Institute for Highway Safety introduced a new crash test -- and a new rating to accompany it. A total of 13 compact SUVs recently took that test, and the 2014 Subaru Forester was the only one in the bunch to earn a "good" rating. The test in question is the "small overlap...

Subaru's First Hybrid Expected Soon, New York Auto Show Debut Possible
There aren't many automakers left that don't offer some form of hybrid in their lineup, but Japanese firm Subaru can count themselves among the "have nots".
