The Porsche is a plug-in hybrid, with an electric range of 15 or 16 miles; the Tesla is all-electric, with ranges of 208 to 275 miles...

As predicted, the plug-in hybrid version of the 2016 Cadillac CT6 large luxury sedan was released today at the Shanghai Motor Show, using an adaptation of GM's second-generation Voltec hybrid system. What wasn't predicted was the startling size of its battery pack: 18.4 kilowatt-hours, identical to that used in the 2016 Chevrolet Volt. That means Cadillac is fitting a battery that's essentially double the size of any other plug-in hybrid on the market today--and should probably achieve 30 or more miles of electric range with it. Why Toyota’s Scion Brand Isn’t Planning A Hybrid Or Electric Car Anytime SoonToyota’s Scion small-car brand has been called a laboratory; and it seems like the perfect testbed for new plug-in hybrid or full electric-car products. Yet you won’t see any of those from the brand—not even hybrids—in the lineup anytime soon. The reason why is that the...

2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid: Gas Mileage Review Of Plug-In HybridThe 2014 Porsche Panamera S E-Hybrid is a comfortable, relatively fast, and fairly fuel-efficient luxury sport sedan. It's rated at 16 miles of electric range, but we didn't achieve that in cold and snowy upstate New York "springtime" weather. We strongly suspect that very few people who've driven...

Why We're Calling The 2016 Chevy Volt A Plug-In HybridSince the launch of the Chevrolet Volt almost five years ago, a battle has raged over what to call it. Is it a range-extended electric car, as GM strongly preferred, or a plug-in hybrid as others insisted equally forcefully? GM's goal in calling the Volt a "range-extended electric" car was to...

The 2016 Mercedes-Benz GLE may seem like a new model, but in fact it's the renamed sport-utility vehicle we used to know as the ML-Class.
