Lotus Exige Scura

Lotus Exige Scura

This week is the Tokyo Auto Show and among many of cars to be shown there like the Nissan Leaf, Honda CR-Z Concept and Toyota FT-86 (potential 370Z competition), Lotus will be revealing the Exige Scura. The Exige Scura will be a special-edition model that is designed for speed. In fact, you can have it in any color as long as it is black.

Unlike Henry Ford’s Model T, the Exige Scura will not be setting any production line records as only 35 copies will be made. For these special-editions the black packaging has also had influence on the name. Scura is Italian for “dark”, hence the high-gloss phantom black triple stripes from nose to tail. Ironically, the rest of the car is finished in a matte black. This is definitely not your normal Lotus.

In keeping with special-editions, this car will have lightweight carbon-fiber parts slim the Scura by some 22 pounds. In addition, launch and traction control features will become standard, which you need with the 257 hp 1.8-liter supercharged engine. No word though whether the 4 second 0-60 time is with or without the help of the launch and traction control. Also, no word on how much damage this special-edition will do to your pocketbook. At a production number of only 35, money probably isn’t an object to those inline to buy it.
