EnerDel is the Indiana-based lithium-ion battery manufacturer that is currently the supplier for the Think City electric car.

The company just announced that they have signed a letter of intent with Fisker Automotive to supply the upcoming Karma range-extended electric car with its lithium ion batteries.

Whether they receive the final contract will depend on results of reliability and performance testing. Fisker intends to launch the Karma in June 2010 and plans to build 15,000 per year.

This announcement comes at the same time as EnerDel is having a ribbon-cutting ceremony with Senator Evan Bayh on the USA's first mass production lithium-ion battery line.

“We are excited to have the opportunity to team up with Fisker to deliver to market a superior automobile that will establish the benchmark for high‐technology green cars,” commented Charles Gassenheimer, chairman and CEO of EnerDel parent company Ener1, Inc. (NASDAQ: HEV). “EnerDel battery packs for electric vehicles (EVs), hybrid electric vehicles (HEVs) and now plug‐in hybrid electrics will help lead the revolution toward mass deployment of electric drive in the United States.”
