Tata Motors of India announced that it plans to sell an electric vehicle based upon the current Indica in Norway.  The electric Indica was developed by Tata Motors and they expect the vehicle to reach the Norwegian market by the end of this year.

According to Tata Group Chairman, Ratan Tata, the Indica will only be available for the time being in Norway, citing the lack of availibility of lithium batteries at this time which will hinder its production for other countries.

Ratan Tata said, "This will be the limiting factor.  The availability of this electric car would for now be limited to Norway."

Little else is known about the upcoming electric version of the Indica at this time.  The electric Indica will be the first electric car produced in India to be sold in any market.

The current Tata Indica is powered by gasoline or diesel engines and has been on the market for several years in India.  There is no indication whether or not the upcoming electric Indica will have similar design elements to the standard Indica V2 provided in the photo.
