A mere ten days after it went on sale in Japan, the next-generation Honda Insight hybrid has already sold more than 10,000 units. That figure is double the sales goal for the entire month for the Insight, which was unveiled at the NAIAS in Detroit last month to mixed reviews. Abused as ugly, or not different enough from the previous generation of Insight, the Japanese consumers see something the harsh American critics didn't.

Given the continued tightening of the Japanese economy, it's unlikely the Insight hybrid will continue to enjoy such remarkable sales numbers.

The Insight goes on sale State-side in April.
