  • 2012 Fiat 500C Cabrio, SoHo district, New York City

So we have written about the 2012 Fiat 500 and a little bit about the 500C Cabrio. However, the thought came to our mind through a recent First Drive completed by our partner site, TheCarConnection.com, that maybe the Cabrio isn’t worth the extra cost. Now hang in there with us; the thought came to mind because it is really just like the Smart ForTwo Cabrio where the soft top slides back—really more like a large cloth sunroof. It is actually very European. Maybe the latter point is really the point as the car really reminds us of the Citroën 2CV and, of course, the original...

Fiat Announces Market Launch of 500 TwinAir

The excitement for the Fiat brand is growing in the U.S. now that we know we will be able to purchase a Fiat 500 in the near future. Maybe it is the unique size or the cache of the brand from the past, but there is a definite air that the Fiat 500 will be a popular car in the U.S. even when...

2012 Fiat 500 Cabriolet: Best Gas-Mileage 4-Seat Convertible You Can Buy

It's springtime, which means tornadoes for some of us, showers and muggy weather for others. It also means putting the roof down on convertibles after the long winter hiatus. Which led us to wonder: What's the best gas mileage you can get in a new drop-top car with four seats (or at least four...

Chrysler To Join Honda In Selling Natural-Gas Cars...In 2017

Ask anyone to name an alternate fuel, and natural gas is rarely the first one that comes to mind. Ethanol, perhaps, and increasingly electricity. But natural gas? Not so much. Yet in other parts of the world, as many as 2 percent of the vehicles on the road are fueled by natural gas, in countries...

In the Red: Each Fiat 500 Electric Car Loses Chrysler $10k

There is nothing a company CEO hates more than not making a profit on a product, but as Fiat Chrysler CEO Sergio Marchionne knows, it is sometimes a necessary evil in the evolution of a new technology. Speaking at Fiat S.p.A’s general meeting on Wednesday, Marchionne spoke frankly about his...

  • 2012 Fiat 500

The Fiat 500 is so close that consumers can taste it. However, if you want to testdrive one before you drive it and you live in a five state region of the Denver Metro area, the chances are you haven’t been able to get near one of the handful of cars they have here on this side of the pond. For 2011 Denver Auto Show attendees that changes starting this Friday through Sunday at the Manufacturer Ride and Drive sign up booths on the street level of the Colorado Convention Center. The Fiat 500 has captured Europe with its throwback design and modern amenities. In the U.S., we expect to see...

Earlier this week we checked out the 2012 Fiat 500 and the first drive report. What we found out was that the Fiat will be a fun, but not particularly performance oriented mini car—at least until the Abarth edition makes it to the U.S. sometime in the future. However, those on the west coast...

  • 2012 Fiat 500

With the first few Fiat 500 minicars now landing in Chrysler dealerships this month and next, the small car's fuel efficiency is clearly one of the main questions buyers will ask about. Now the EPA has released its final ratings for the car, though they're not yet on its FuelEconomy.org website. The agency says the 2012 Fiat 500 gets 30 mpg city, 38 mpg highway when it's fitted with the five-speed manual gearbox. That's a combined rating of 33 mpg. For the optional automatic, the ratings come in at 27 mpg city, 34 mpg highway, for a combined 30-mpg overall number. Those are respectable...

  • U.S.-spec 2011 Fiat 500 Sport

It has been a little while since we have checked in on Fiat and Chrysler—specifically about the coming of the Fiat brand to American showrooms. Even more specifically, we are foaming at the mouth for the Fiat 500 to come to American shores and the Fiat 500C would be an even bigger hit for the warm climates of Miami, Santa Monica and Arizona (in the winter time). However, there is still wide spread skepticism around the idea that the Fiat brand might actually make it across the pond. Why? Well, some of it, as pointed out by Car and Driver, is because we have heard of the return of Alfa...
