Sometime early last week, someone somewhere in the U.S. bought a hybrid car. And while we may never know exactly who that person was, the car was the 2-millionth hybrid-electric vehicle sold here since the very first Honda Insight went on sale in late 1999. Industry trade journal Ward's Auto calculated from its sales data that the milestone was crossed within the first week of June. The first 1 million hybrids were sold by 2008, indicating a much quicker pace of sales as hybrid production grows and gas prices rise. Odds are that that 2-millionth hybrid car was a 2011 Toyota Prius, since a...

The list of cars that have been celebrated in song is long. Think pink Cadillacs, little Deuce coupes, Pontiac GTO, and many Mustangs, with or without Sally. Recall Alert: 2012 Honda Civic Fuel O-Ring Affects 1,156 U.S. Cars
When it comes to recalls they can generally come about in one of two ways: the government requires a company to recall a car due to a number of safety complaints or the auto manufacturer voluntarily makes a recall announcement. Obviously, the second situation is the more desirable because it can be...

OK, so gas prices are hovering around $4 a gallon, and dispensing with gasoline altogether is getting more and more attractive. But for whatever reasons, plug-in cars aren't for you. Maybe it's the limited range of battery electric vehicles, maybe it's the $41,000 cost before incentives of the 2011 Chevy Volt. Well, depending on where you live, there is another option: fueling your car on natural gas. For more than a decade, Honda has been the only carmaker that has sold a compact passenger car powered by natural gas. For 2012, its all-new Civic line includes a model called the Civic Natural...

Redesigns are a funny thing, sometimes they hit the mark and other times they leave you wishing they hadn’t changed the car at all. Right now we are on the fence about the 2012 Honda Civic redesign and it looks like we aren't the only ones. Our partner site, TheCarConnection.com recently published “2012 Honda Civic: As Exciting As A New Toothbrush?” We won’t spoil the conclusion to that teaser, but it does make us wonder how many people really like the new body design. Honda had good reason to do a refresh since the current body style has been a round for several...

If you've been paying any attention at all, you'll see new-car ads touting the magical "40 mpg highway" number in big print. You'll see a whole lot of car ads, in fact, for vehicles that include the 2011 Ford Fiesta SFE, 2011 Chevrolet Cruze Eco (with six-speed manual), 2011 Hyundai Elantra (all...

Recall Alert: 2006-07 Honda Civic Hybrids Need Drivetrain Fix
Something popped into my head recently when I thought of recalls; it is a verse from a popular Salt-n-Pepa song modified. “Yo, Pep, I don't think they're gonna play this on the radio. And why not? Everybody has recalls.” And no truer words have been spoken and not even manufacturers...

Honda said yesterday it would recall 36,700 of its 2006 and 2007 Civic Hybrid models to replace a key component of the Integrated Motor Assist hybrid system. The part to be replaced is the DC-to-DC converter, which adjusts the voltage of power moved among different components of the hybrid system. The company said the existing converters in the affected Civic Hybrids could fail, which might lead to engine stalling and headlight problems. No crashes or injuries have been reported in connection with the problem, but Honda will replace tens of thousands of converters to avoid any potential for...

2012 Honda Civic HF Joins The 40-MPG-Plus Parade, Hybrid Too
You may have seen it on a t-shirt: "40 is the new 30." But you may not have realized it applies to miles-per-gallon just as much as age. While cars with EPA ratings of 30 mpg or more used to be considered in the highest ranks of fuel efficiency, now 40 mpg seems to be the new benchmark for...
