Tesla Model S electric-car racing series to launch next yearSome car fans don't connect with racing series because their purpose-built, open-wheel race cars bear no resemblance to anything they see on the street. And perhaps the same could be said of today's Formula E circuit of electric-car races across the globe. But how about a race series exclusively...

Electric cars in Canada: 6 good-news events for buyers, driversCanadian electric-vehicle policy seems to be enjoying its own annus mirabilis, or "wonderful year," during 2016. While "a journey of 1,000 miles begins with a single step," plug-in proponents could be forgiven for wanting to advance more than a step at a time. Here, then, are a half-dozen recent...

Durable 2012 Chevrolet Volt: 300,000 miles, no battery lossOne of the biggest worries about electric cars--and hybrids for that matter--is whether their expensive high-voltage battery packs will last the life of the car. If not, potential buyers worry, they may be saddled with thousands of dollars of cost in years to come. The evidence on hybrids is...

If you’re looking to spend $8,500 on a car, you’re probably going to bring home something with close to six digits on the odometer. Unless, that is, you buy a brand new electric car deep in the heart of oil and gas country. That’s what I did, and that’s how I wound up spending just $8,500 (after incentives, before taxes) on a brand-new 2015 Nissan Leaf S. I live in Denver, the largest city in a state of immense natural beauty that’s probably more inclined to think about the environment than most. Faraday's Future bumpy; Nevada nervous, first car 'no Tesla'Company startups are, by their nature, secretive and turbulent places. As in previous years, the dog days of January and February were not kind to electric-car sales this year. Both 2014 and 2015 saw the lowest number of plug-in cars sold in their first two months, and 2016 appears to be following that pattern. While February sales were slightly up on those in January, both months stayed at 6,000 to 8,000 vehicles--nowhere near the 8,800 to 14,000 per month sold last March through December.
