Steenstra Styletto

Steenstra Styletto

Watch your back Tesla. There's a new electric supercar in the works and it's being developed right in your backyard. International car designer, Cornelis Steenstra just released the first images of his zero-emissions, 200-mph-plus, sports car which he hopes to put on the streets by early 2013.

Steenstra's extensive résumé includes stints with Volvo, Mercedes Benz, Mazda and Hyundai. Since starting his consulting firm, Foresee Car Design, Inc., in 2001, Steenstra has worked with Porsche, Nissan, Subaru, Honda, Suzuki, MG Rover and others. It's easier to list the companies he hasn't worked with.

His latest business venture, Steenstra GCM, is currently developing the Styletto supercar (note the word "style" in the name) at their Mission Viejo, California, headquarters. The Styletto is aimed at the upper-echelon of the motoring public, to compete with the likes of Porsche, Lamborghini and Ferrari. While few details have been offered, we can expect seating for two, gullwing doors and some serious battery power.

"I grew up with a passion for transportation and motor racing, and have always felt that people should and could enjoy driving passionate performance automobiles while still retaining their responsibility toward the environment. These are desires that can very well be enjoyed together" says Steenstra.

Steenstra's team aims to have driveable prototypes ready for the 2010 Pebble Beach Concourse d' Elegance and they're currently courting investors. Is Tesla dissident, Martin Eberhard looking for work these days?
