A British company name Romag has designed and begun building a new type of parking structure. The device is essentially parking bay that has a solar photovoltaic (PV) panel roof.

Electric car drivers would park underneath and the solar energy collected above would be fed back into the car to recharge it. When no car was parked there, energy produced would flow back into the electric grid.

The device has a small footprint is said to be ideal for open air parking areas including those found at airports, supermarkets, shopping centers, offices and public buildings. Their presence will help encourage people to adopt electric cars.

Currently two prototypes are being built, and expected power output will be 1.7 KW. Three hours of strong sunlight then could produce enough energy to travel from 25 to 30 miles depending on the vehicle.
