The first batch of 2011 Buick Regals that are set to go on sale this quarter will come with a gasoline-only 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine but eventually a new 2.0-liter turbo mill will be offered, by which time both engines will feature E85 flex-fuel capability. The 2.0-liter turbo will arrive in late August and will be GM’s first forced-induction engine to be E85-capable. Incidentally, this engine was originally developed for the 2010 Saab 9-5, which just happens to share its Epsilon II platform with the Regal. The information comes from Jim Federico, vehicle line executive for the global...

Smaller-More-Efficient-Engine Example: 2010 Buick LaCrosse
Sure, hybrids and electric cars are great, but they sell in small numbers. The way most cars will meet newer, more aggressive fuel-economy rules is by making engines smaller and more efficient. Case in point: the 2010 Buick LaCrosse, a midsize sedan now offered with a 2.4-liter direct-injected...

General Motors displayed the all new 2011 Buick Regal just days ago in Los Angeles. According to Wards Auto," Sources tell Ward’s a hybrid variant featuring the beefed-up version of GM’s current belt/alternator/starter (BAS) technology will follow the launch of the North American-built and traditionally propelled Regal." Drawing additional conclusions, Wards writer James Amend also speculates that the Regal and Regal Hybrid will both be built at the Oshawa, Ontario...

GM's Plug-In Hybrid: Not a Saturn, Not a Buick, Will Try Again
Just two weeks ago, we reported that GM's first plug-in hybrid vehicle--originally meant to be a Saturn Vue before GM decided to sell Saturn to Pennske--would become a Buick crossover. My, how quickly things change in the new Internet world. As GM said Wednesday on its Fastlane blog, "not all the...
