Famed car designer Gordon Murray will team up with former Honda engine specialist Osamu Goto and oil company Shell to develop a concept for "an ultra-compact, efficient car for city use based around the internal combustion engine." It's not intended for production. Instead, the project's ambitions are far broader, as Murray discussed in an interview with Green Car Reports this morning. The goal of the project is nothing less than a "step change" in the efficiency of engine-driven vehicles, both in operation and in their manufacturing. Gordon Murray's City Cars, iStream Production Soon A Reality?
Lackluster sales of cars like the Smart Fortwo have illustrated that the market for really tiny cars still doesn't really exist in the U.S, but elsewhere things are quite different. News of Gordon Murray's decision to build a low-cost minicar created quite a stir when it was announced last year. That stir was in part because of the key driving force behind the project, Gordon Murray, ex-McLaren F1 designer and the pen behind the Caparo T1 supercar, but also because the car itself is an ambitious project. Designed to be tiny, efficient and flexible, the T25 has finally been revealed ahead of its first public appearance at the Smith School’s World Forum on Enterprise and the Environment in Oxford, UK today. For those unfamiliar with the T25, it’s basically a design for...
