In Canada, the Chevy Volt's record-setting sales last month overshadowed the Tesla Model S's equally impressive deliveries the month before, in March. Building on strong momentum in March, the Chevy Volt tallied 222 sales in April, breaking its own monthly record for deliveries of a single plug-in electric car in Canada (214 units back in September 2012). It was the third time GM's electric flagship had reached more than 200 monthly sales in Canada (211 Volts were sold in May 2012). Incentives likely assisted each time. Tesla Model S Sets Record For Single-Month Sales In NorwayIn the last few years of electric car sales, the only records cars have been breaking are their own. While the Nissan Leaf is gaining momentum, the Chevrolet Volt remains in the driver's seat for March in plug-in electric-car sales for Canada. The Chevy Volt returned to triple-figure sales in Canada for the tenth time in March, tallying 105 sales from coast to coast. That figure was up slightly from a strong February (98 units) and year-ago March levels of 82 sales. While it may be premature to project trends for the rest of 2014, General Motors' Canadian division will surely be happy that its Q1 Volt sales are up by half year-over-year (269 vs. 177). The Nissan Leaf followed in second...

Analysts worried that winter weather would put a crimp in U.S. new-car sales last month, but one electric car racked up record February sales: the Nissan Leaf. Leaf sales of 1,425 cars in February were a record for the month, more than double the 2013 total of 653 February sales (the numbers for 2012 and 2011 were 478 and 67, respectively). Sales of the Chevrolet Volt, the range-extended electric car that's the other high-volume, mass-priced plug-in car on the market, came in at 1,210--higher than January's 918, but down one-third from the 1,626 sold in February 2013. Volt sales appear to be...

FINAL UPDATE: Plug-In Electric Car Sales In January: Leaf, Volt Both LowIn the first month of 2014, sales of the two most popular plug-in electric cars were lower than they've been in many months.
