Honda has announced the voluntary recall of 50,190 model year 2012 Civics, to inspect and potentially replace the left driveshaft.

During assembly, the left driveshaft on some Civic models may not have been properly seated, and the retaining clip may not have been properly installed.

This could cause the driveshaft to separate from the outer CV joint while the vehicle is in motion, resulting in a loss of power. If the separation occurs when the vehicle is parked, the vehicle may roll away if the parking brake is not properly set.

No accidents or related injuries have been reported to date, and Honda expects the recall to begin in late June. Owners of affected vehicles will be contacted via mail, and dealers will inspect and replace the left drive shaft as needed.

Honda will also set up a dedicated recall website, allowing owners of 2012 Civic models to verify if their vehicle is included in the recall. Customers lacking internet access can also reach Honda by calling (800) 999-1009, then selecting option 4.

Owners seeking more information on this recall can also contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at (888) 327-4236.
