Ontario, Canada is not widely recognized or discussed when talking about advanced technology vehicles, but now they can lay claim to a title of "World's Best" in this category.

Ontario recently announced an incentive program for buyers of hybrids and EVs.  This program will start next July and will make Ontario proud of their new title of "World's Best Green Car Incentives."

The announcement came from Ontario Premier Dalton McGuinty.  The program will give buyers of hybrids and EVs rebates ranging from $3,570 to $8,925 in US dollars or about $4,000 to $10,000 in Canadian dollars.  According to McGuinty, this tops the federal credits offered in the U.S. which only go up to $7,500 and tops the rest of the world.

The program is designed to increase advanced technology vehicle sales in Ontario.  McGuinty noted that he would like to see 20% of all of the vehicles on the roads of Ontario to be powered by electricity by 2020.

Additionally, buyers of EVs in Ontario will be given a unique license plate which allows them unlimited access to the carpool lane and access to public charging stations.

Many countries offer incentives for the purchase of hybrids and EVs.  Some nations give significant rebates in hopes of spurring the industry.  Now one providence in Canada claims to give the worlds best rebates.  Maybe somebody else will try to one up Ontario and offer even better rebates.  The rebate race is on, keep them coming.
