Gas Mileage Keeps Rising: Record 23.8 MPG Average In 2012Cars averaging 23.8 mpg don't usually get much coverage on GreenCarReports--they simply aren't that green. In this instance though, that gas mileage figure doesn't refer to a particular car--it refers to every car sold in 2012. Researchers at the University of Michigan Transportation Research...

2013 Fiat 500e: 108 MPGe Highway, Class-Leading RangeIt's the electric car Chrysler and Fiat don't really want to make, but that isn't to say the 2013 Fiat 500e is a half-hearted attempt. On numbers alone, quite the opposite. Chrysler has announced the 500e's EPA efficiency figures, and both range and highway efficiency are class-leading. Official...

The company will build on the success of its Chevrolet Volt range-extended electric car, an area where it leads its competitors, while downplaying more traditional full hybrid technologies. GM Product Chief Mary Barra said in a videoconference yesterday that GM will "make educated bets on which technologies hold the most potential for creating values for our customers and our company." The company will continue with its mild-hybrid eAssist system, which...

The CEOs of Tesla and Fisker may have thought they were home free--but it was not to be. Both startup electric-car companies were named at the very end of last night's third and final presidential debate. Republican candidate Mitt Romney didn't repeat his charge that Tesla Motors [NSDQ:TSLA] and Fisker Automotive were 'loser' companies--as he said in the first debate on October 3. Instead, he took the line that government support for specific companies discouraged all investment in U.S. industry. And some observers felt he moved beyond criticizing such support to conveying his contempt for...

It's out-punching the Leaf consistently, and other electric cars aren't even getting a look-in. It's even outselling Toyota's...

Compacts Better Than Subcompacts For High Gas Mileage? It's fairly easy to point at trucks and supercars as the biggest gas-guzzlers on the market, but for the average person on the street it's a lot harder to identify the cars with better gas mileage. The casual observer might assume that Smart ForTwos or Scion iQs are among the most parsimonious...
