The 2011 Geneva Motor Show is quickly approaching with the opening day being on March 3rd. As with most shows, manufacturers are using the show as a springboard for their concept cars and model debuts. Smart is no exception and has announced that they will be debuting a new concept car called the Forspeed. This isn’t just any concept; it is a roadster electric concept and one that is bound to turn some heads.

The Smart Forspeed electric concept has a drivetrain that is derived from the ForTwo Electric Drive, a car that is no stranger to the AllSmallCars.com pages. That said, the Forspeed adds a little extra spice by removing the top with a speedster open-air design, integrated solar cells in the windshield and a nautical inspired interior design. The exterior is finished in light colors that set off the exterior design which has a unique front fascia and oversized wheels—all which give it an aggressive, but inviting stance.

Just to recap on the powertrain, the Forspeed motor will produce 40 horsepower with an additional 7 horsepower via an overboost feature. What is even better is that the Forspeed will hit 75 mph when traveling flat-out and be capable of somewhere near 84 miles on a single charge—of course most likely not while going flat-out.

The Smart Forspeed isn’t slated for the production line yet and chances are we will only see aspects of the concepts design make on the roads worldwide. That said, we wouldn’t turn down a spin in this concept car any day of the week.
