Volkswagen and Audi seem to be closer than ever these days or maybe it is just more noticeable with today’s designs. The latest version of the Volkswagen Jetta was spied by Car and Driver recently and as they said it looks “more than a little Audi A4–esque from most angles.” That may or may not surprise all of our readers since there is history of collaboration between the two companies, including interchanging whole drivetrains. Now the bodies seem to be much more similar as well.

The 2011 Volkswagen Jetta is scheduled to go on sale later this year and should ring up for a base MSRP of somewhere around $15K. The car will continue to be built in Mexico and be the basic sedan that Volkswagen offers the automotive buying public. Along those lines, VW is on record saying that the car will basically be “dummed down” and “de-contented.” Why? Price. Yes, in order to keep the car affordable VW has decided to keep it simple and offer the basic features target customers are looking for in an entry-level sedan. Of course, you can expect air condition, power locks and windows. There will probably even be leather and a sunroof, but we doubt if slick entertainment options and navigation will be apart of the equation.

All in all, the new body is still looking good, but we are sitting on pins-and-needles waiting to see what the official word and option list is going to look like from VW. Stay tuned right here at AllSmallCars.com for more information as we get it.
