Today, our partners over at TheCarConnection.com ran a story that warms our hearts over here at AllSmallCars.com—VW has announced that they will have an electric Citycar by 2013. Now, as some of you may know, the 2009 Frankfurt Auto Show is underway, so there has been plenty of news coming out of Germany (See the new Bugatti debut). However, this news is of a more small and green nature and I don’t mean aliens.

Volkswagen’s Chief of Research and Development, Dr. Ulrich Hackenberg, announced today that the company will bring an electric vehicle to market by the year 2013. This vehicle is supposed to see a limited production run and be able to travel 60 – 70 miles on a single charge. So basically, call this VW’s version of the—insert competing car name here—electric car. It is nice to see VW keeping up with the Jones though and showing that they do have plans in the EV market.

The more interesting part of the story over at TCC is the comments from Hackenberg on the future of EVs and how long the internal combustion engine will be the norm. So check it out and keep your eyes peeled for breaking EV news coming out of Frankfurt!
