Yesterday Michael Kimberly, CEO at Lotus, was quoted in the Financial Times saying that we ought not be surprised to see an electric Lotus in the near future. Using range-extending technology similar to that of the eagerly-anticipated Chevrolet Volt, this Lotus will use a fuel-based back-up to charge the battery as it's being used, giving it a range of up to 400 miles on a single tank of gas.

Bearing in mind that Lotus is currently contracted to build bodies for the Tesla roadster (based on its Elise model), this high-performance Lotus EV will surely compete directly with that exact Tesla as well as the sleek Fisker EV. All eyes will be on the Geneva motor show in March, where it's rumored that Lotus will show a concept version of their EV.
