Japan Post Service Co., (the part of Japan Post Group responsible for mail delivery) is expected to start 5-year lease terms on 40 electric vehicles by the end of July. The company will utilize 20 Mitsubishi MiEVs and 20 Subaru Stellas primarily in Kanagawa Prefecture where some charging infrastructure already exists.
The mail service will also try nine battery powered trucks with solar panels on top and several single seat vehicles based on the Ultra Small Electric Vehicle Everyday COMS produced by Toyota Auto Body.
As if that's not a convincing statement of the company's intentions to go green, Toyota plans to provide the Post Service with a plug-in Prius by the end of the year. We can smell the air getting cleaner already.
