Prius Owners Still Feel the Love Page 2

Third-Generation Toyota Prius

Curt McAllister, Product News Manager at Toyota, calls these consumers “devout.” He says that Prius owners are passionate about their vehicles, and from the beginning, they’ve wanted to know everything about their beloved cars, “every nuance and intricacy.” McAllister adds that perhaps the reason Prius owners are still so stalwartly loyal is because this recall isn’t about hard parts, it’s a software issue. He’s confident, but not smug, when he tells me that he’s certain that though the loyalty of Prius owners has been tested, Toyota will win back their affection.

Honestly, it doesn’t seem, at least to me based my own very unscientific research, that they’ve ever really lost it.

  1. I bought my Prius in December 2003 and I LOVE my car. It had the first ever hands-free phone and GPS. For under $500 i added a built in satellite radio and ipod player. All of this for under $25,000. I have to admit I also felt a little smug having bought mine before the gas prices went up. It didn't take a genius to figure that this was bound to happen ( Bush/Cheney/Condi all oil people). I will hold on to this one until I can buy an electric car. I'm not opposed to buying another brand, but it would be so sweet if it were a Prius.

    Bad stuff?

  2. This is bad news for Toyota. Recalling the 2010 Prius for brake glitches tarnishes the reputation of the maker and the model. Hybrids and electric cars are the greenest technology in the mainstream and it’s a shame to see their popularity decreased by these design flaws.

  3. I have owned my Prius for nine and a half years and have about 117,000 miles on it. On the whole I consider it a good car but less than perfect. The biggest problem is that you must take it to Toyota dealers who are very good at charging but not very good at fixing.

My plan is to buy an electric car when they become available and therefore another Toyota or Prius is not in my future. If I had to buy another hybrid I would certainly consider the Ford Focus as well as the Prius.
And another contrarian note, if I could buy an EV1 it would be my first choice.
