Last Thursday, found celebrities, environmental activists and the 2011 Chevrolet Volt at the 8th Annual Global Green USA Pre-Oscar Party. The Volt has been named North American Car of the Year and Green Car Journal’s Green Car of the Year, so it seems fitting that it would take center stage on the green carpet at the Avalon Hollywood. Now the Volt might not seem like a particularly glamorous car and some might be asking why it wasn’t a completely electric vehicle on the green carpet, but you have to keep in mind that the Volt is paving the way to future electric car adoption. Even the stars get it—in fact Baywatch actress Alexandra Paul drove her own Chevrolet Volt to the party.

Sounds like a fun night, but the organizers didn’t stop their; the opportunity to have the Volt and environmental advocates was leveraged to bring students from the Environmental Charter High School so they could get a sneak peak of the products and news as it happened at the party. The students were able to experience the Volt and all the high-tech gadgetry that comes with it. It has been said that this kind of exposure and experience might make them electric vehicle proponents for life. I am sure meeting celebrities from some of Hollywood A-list didn’t hurt either.

The party even spilled over onto Twitter with a Tweet-off where Global Green asked attendees where they would take the Volt to stay green in L.A. Seems like a good question since La La Land has a tendency to have a brown cloud over it at times. The winning tweet was from @CEOHabitatLA who wrote:

“#globalgreen I’d take the Volt to volunteer building a green LEED home for a family with Habitat for Humanity in Lynwood w/ 3 friends.”

Seems like a pretty green idea to us too. The Volt is making a splash, even among the Hollywood elite, so if you are feeling your environmental consciousness getting to you then head over to your nearest Chevrolet dealer to see how you can experience this revolutionary technology for yourself.
