Nissan is embracing social media in getting out the message about its LEAF EV, set to launch in selected US markets in late 2010.

Nissan predicts there will be 20,000 early adopters in those markets lined up and ready to buy the 100 mile range EV.

The company has partnered with EV charging infrastructure company eTec, under a DOE grant, to build out a supporting charging networks in those same locations, and have launched a dedicated website for buyers to register to purchase a car.

Now we are being treated to a series of YouTube videos outlining the cars technology.

In this first installment we see a bit of Nissan's battery evolution. The company points out it created the world's first lithium-ion battery EV, the Nissan Altra 17 years ago.
