BMW Vision EfficientDynamics Concept

Crucial component: software

As with most modern green cars, software continually reads data from dozens of vehicle and exterior sensors to tune all systems for maximum efficiency and minimal fuel use.

Among other innovations, for example, when the navigation system sees that the vehicle is entering a highway, it signals the vehicle controller to turn off the engine cooling fans and vary the sensitivity of the electric power steering.

We'll have photos and more details on the BMW Vision EfficientDynamics concept when it appears at Frankfurt. BMW also will show production models of its X6 ActiveHybrid and 7-Series ActiveHybrid there.

  1. Build it. NOW. This is the future of motoring, marrying the low end torque of diesel and electric motors to create exhilarating performance, with the cruising benefits of diesels engines with advanced aerodynamic shapes to increase fuel economy in all circumstances. Despite this car probably being designed in the wind tunnel, I think it looks fantastic, especially the front end which could show the new design language for BMW sports cars of the future.
