French automaker PSA Peugeot Citroen has been planning to introduce a plug-in diesel electric hybrid car in 2011. The advanced electric powertrain is intended to be placed in the 3008 crossover vehicle.

The company apparently isn't exuberant about the public's appetite for this vehicle indicating that they would only expect to sell them in the tens of thousands of units.

However, the high cost of lithium ion batteries will affect the future project and may, according to Ladimir Prince, manager of PSA's hybrid innovations unit, "be delayed by a year or two."
