Third Generation 2010 Toyota Prius to Go on Sale in May for About $27,600

Toyota has recently unveiled its new third generation Prius, which has improved aerodynamics, a larger engine, and an improved parallel hybrid drivertrain that permits it to achieve a 50 mpg combined fuel efficieny.

The Nikkei has just reported that Toyota will begin selling the car in May alongside its older version. The older version will be dropped in price to around 2 million yen or $22,000 whereas the new version will be sold for approximately 2.5 million yen or $27,600.

  1. Wow, big price increase. Even after they mentioned that they cut the cost of production. I guess they will have to offer rebates to move these with all the new hybrid offerings.
    In an effort to get it available to compete with the Honda Insight, maybe they overpriced it and will be getting it out the door sooner then they would otherwise at small numbers.
