2012 Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet
The automotive industry hasn’t seen a Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet since 2002 when it was discontinued. That is until now. For the 2011 Geneva Auto Show VW revives the Golf Cabriolet, but it might not be as straightforward as it sounds. The car is targeted to go on sale this summer, but where is where VW is getting some reactions.

The all-new Volkswagen Golf Cabriolet will be a soft top like previous model and it will have several engines to choose from including a turbo diesel and a range-topping 208-hp 2.0-liter direct injection gasoline engine. The latter is supposed to be introduced a year after the initial vehicle launch. None of that is what is garnering some attention from the U.S. media. According to Inside Line, a VW of America spokesperson said that the new Cabriolet isn’t slated to come to America’s shores.
So if America isn’t going to get the Golf Cabriolet this time around, what is slated to come? The current plan for VW is to focus on the all-new 2012 EOS and the upcoming Beetle Cabrio. Bottom line there is no Golf Cabriolet coming, but we do find it curious that VW doesn’t think there is a market for a drop top Golf—especially in California.
