A stolen Tesla Model S was destroyed in a crash Thursday night following a police chase that hit speeds of 100 mph through West Hollywood.

Several other vehicles were also destroyed in the high-speed accident and at least four people were hospitalized, in a crash that left the Model S split in two.

NBC Los Angeles confirms police reports that say the stolen Tesla hit a Honda carrying five people, before hitting a light pole that sliced the car in half. It crashed into several other vehicles before coming to a rest.

Two of the Honda's passengers are in a serious condition and one is critical, according to police reports.

Following the accident the front half of the Tesla caught fire, while the back was left wedged into the entrance of a building. The Tesla's driver was flung from the vehicle in the accident and is also in a critical condition.

Witnesses at the scene described "debris everywhere", stretching throughout the 1200 block of North La Brea Avenue. The road remained closed for investigation overnight.

According to police, the chase started at around 12:50 am when officers tried to pull over the stolen vehicle. Two officers have also been left in serious condition after their patrol vehicle struck a median, though both are listed as having non-life threatening injuries.

A request for information has been made to Tesla Motors for comment, but due to the developing nature of the incident the company has declined until more is known.
