Electric cars are getting cleaner all the time, as coal plants are retired and more sustainable power from wind and solar come online. The Union of Concerned Scientists underscored just how significant that improvement has already been in less than a decade.

The hydrogen fuel-cell trucking venture Nikola introduced a new pickup design that’s partly a battery-electric, partly a fuel-cell—with performance that could potentially challenge Rivian or Tesla. But with few up-close details or an assembly partner thus far, it’s merely a proposal.
