Being the first on the scene with its hybrid SUV, the Escape Hybrid, Ford has experience in the industry that many of its competitors can’t claim. With over six years spent on developing the vehicle, Ford has been given plenty of time to tweak and fidget with it to create a superstar. But after all these years, has Ford’s experience created the number one mid-size hybrid SUV?

Many individuals associate hybrids with small vehicles, but the Ford Escape Hybrid offers big SUV space and safety. In government tests, the Escape earned a perfect five stars in front and side crash tests, though its three-star rollover safety rating is a bit of a disappointment.

Hybrid experts have often claimed that the Escape Hybrid lacks instrumentation to provide a proper experience for the driver. Many hybrid sedans have been noted as having gadgets that make the driving experience more like a video game than an average stroll to your office. And although other hybrid competitors are tapping into the experience of driving a hybrid, Ford has focused most of its resources on maintaining its incredible gas mileage.

Even after hybrid SUVs have begun to roll out from a variety of different manufacturers, the Ford Escape Hybrid has maintained its position as the best hybrid SUV in terms of fuel economy. The Escape Hybrid boasts a highly competitive 30+ mpg in the city, something that keeps your cost low at the pump, along with auto insurance premiums at a bare minimum.
