The ZAP Alias, a two-seat, three-wheel 100% electric roadster unveiled at this year's NADA in New Orleans, has been accepted to compete for the $10 million purse in the Progressive Insurance Automotive X Prize (PIAXP).

Nearly three dozen teams from around the world are competing for the prize. The contest will include a stage demonstration of each entry's real-world capabilties and functionality, the details of which will be released within the next few months.

To be accepted as a competitor, a team must show that they have the capability to design and build a production-intent vehicle that's affordable, safe, and can get at least 100 MPGe (miles per gallon energy equivalent). Teams must register to compete in the PIAXP by February 28.
