As we head into the last full month of summer, it's once again time to look at the best deals on hybrids, electric cars, and diesels.

Strong incentives for certain models carry over from previous months, but there are also new incentives that make some cars a better deal than they were before.

There aren't too many major changes to report this month, as carmakers seem to be aiming to lower stockpiles of specific models.

The deals listed below represent the best in their respective categories for August. Head over to CarsDirect for more detailed information.

Hybrids

The Ford Fusion Hybrid and Lincoln MKZ Hybrid mid-size sedan twins both make for good deals this month.

2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid

A lease deal on the 2015 Ford Fusion Hybrid continues from July, through to September 8.

Ford is offering a Fusion Hybrid lease at $179 per month for 36 months, with $2,549 due at signing, and an allotted 10,500 miles per year.

Or, buyers looking for a more prestigious nameplate and more luxury features an opt for a 2015 Lincoln MKZ Hybrid--which is mechanically identical to the Fusion.

Through September 7, it's possible lease an MKZ Hybrid for $347 a month for 36 months, with no money down and a 10,500-mile annual cap.

Plug-In Hybrids

The 2015 Ford C-Max Energi remains the best deal among plug-in hybrids, with a lease deal unchanged from July.

It's still possible to lease a C-Max Energi at $159 a month for 36 months, with $3,089 due at signing and a 10,500-mile annual cap.

That works out to a $66-per-month advantage over the Ford Fusion Energi sedan--which uses the same powertrain--and an $80 advantage over the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, reckons CarsDirect.

The Prius Plug-In Hybrid has been out of production since June, as Toyota prepares an all-new model.

Meanwhile, this Ford C-Max Energi lease deal is valid through September 30.

Electric Cars

The bestselling electric car in the world is once again one of the best available deals.

2015 Nissan Leaf

August marks the third month in a row that the 2015 Nissan Leaf can be leased for $199 for 36 months.

That includes $2,399 down, and an annual cap of 12,000 miles.

Among electric cars sold in the majority of states, the 2015 Chevrolet Volt is another good option.

This model has been out of production since May, as Chevy prepares to launch the all-new 2016 model.

For the remaining stock of 2015 models, it's offering a lease at $197 per month for 39 months.

That's with $2,500 due at signing, and 10,000 miles per year.

Current Volt owners also qualify for a $2,500 loyalty bonus--effectively negating the down payment.

2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI

Diesel

The 2015 Volkswagen Passat TDI returns to the list of notable deals this month.

It's available to lease for $259 per month for 36 months, with $1,999 due at signing and a 12,000-mile cap.

However, purchasing may be a better option than leasing, in certain situations.

In August, the Passat TDI gets $1,500 in unadvertised lease discounts, but dealers are also getting $3,000 in incentives to use at their discretion.

Another Volkswagen--the 2015 Touareg TDI Lux 4Motion--is also worth a look.

VW is continuing a lease offer of $519 per month for 36 months, with $2,999 due at signing and a cap of 10,000 miles per year.

The 2016 Touareg TDI will get a $2,000 price cut, but the 2015's $6,500 in lease discounts may still make it the better buy.
