I know you're not here to learn how a convertible might fit a kid on a day-to-day basis, and I'm not going to do you the disservice of acting like you are. The Miata is nothing more than pure indulgence after a long day. Seriously, if you are looking for a fun second car to calm your stress, this baby will cure what ails you, while carting you to the local burrito joint to pick up dinner. And when it's up, it adds structural rigidity and sound deadening that really makes highway driving a nicer experience. Personally, I probably wouldn't pay what the new top costs, but I sure wouldn't try and talk you out of it. Occupants above 6 feet in height may fit with the help of the new manual height adjustment, but the taller you are the more claustrophobic you'll feel and the poorer your sightlines will be. The cockpit is wider than the prior generation's and has greater hip room, shoulder room and elbowroom, but the difference isn't as great as we'd hoped when Mazda set out to redo this model. Although a tad cool with the top down, 36 is much nicer than 8. Besides, the wind blocker between seats keeps the breeze skipping over the melon, not slapping against the neck, so discomfort was minimal. Spring, summer and fall would be motoring joy. But someone should fix the power top's instructions since they are upside down on the sunvisor. The top slips into a small stowage hole behind the seats so it doesn't rob trunk luggage room.
