...Options are grouped in numerous packages. Available on the Sport, the Convenience Package provides keyless entry/power locks, cruise control, foglamps, a one-touch passenger window, steering-wheel-mounted audio controls and covered storage cubbies behind the seats. Available on Touring and Grand Touring trims, the Suspension Package features a sport-tuned suspension (with Bilstein shocks) and a limited-slip differential. The Grand Touring qualifies for a pair of premium packages. Premium Package #1 (not available with the automatic transmission) adds stability control, a limited-slip...

...I have to tell you, my daughter has bought into convertible therapy as much as anyone can. I know you're not here to learn how a convertible might fit a kid on a day-to-day basis, and I'm not going to do you the disservice of acting like you are. The Miata is nothing more than pure indulgence after a long day. Seriously, if you are looking for a fun second car to calm your stress, this baby will cure what ails you, while carting you to the local burrito joint to pick up dinner. The retractable hardtop is so awesome; it goes up and down so quickly, you can take advantage of even a small errand...

...Flip the latch and press a button, and the hardtop folds itself into a space behind the seats, intruding not at all on the small but usable trunk. And when it's up, it adds structural rigidity and sound deadening that really makes highway driving a nicer experience. Personally, I probably wouldn't pay what the new top costs, but I sure wouldn't try and talk you out of it. The cost, incidentally, of the test car is $26,760 to start, and with delivery and a few options (Sirius satellite radio, which I'll gladly pay $430 for), plus a $500 sport suspension package (OK, I'll buy that, too), and an...

...but longer-legged drivers sometimes can't find a place where their knees and the wheel can live in harmony. Occupants above 6 feet in height may fit with the help of the new manual height adjustment, but the taller you are the more claustrophobic you'll feel and the poorer your sightlines will be. The cockpit is wider than the prior generation's and has greater hip room, shoulder room and elbowroom, but the difference isn't as great as we'd hoped when Mazda set out to redo this model. The interior is highlighted with chrome and silver accents, and the driver faces a three-spoke tilt steering...

...but the 7.5-second 0-60-mph time is often cited as a driver complaint. The cramped interior is another common issue for owners.Mazda again offers four Miata variants for 2008. The base SV offers a basic standard features package, while the second-tier Sport adds a leather-wrapped steering wheel. The two upper trim levels, Touring and Grand Touring, add some upscale amenities: cruise control, keyless entry, and a CD changer on the Touring, and the Grand Touring adds leather upholstery, heated seats, and a Bose audio system. The Sport, Touring, and Grand Touring trims are all available with a...

...The top retracts in about 10 seconds and returns in about 12 seconds. That's quick. Although a tad cool with the top down, 36 is much nicer than 8. Besides, the wind blocker between seats keeps the breeze skipping over the melon, not slapping against the neck, so discomfort was minimal. Spring, summer and fall would be motoring joy. But someone should fix the power top's instructions since they are upside down on the sunvisor. The top slips into a small stowage hole behind the seats so it doesn't rob trunk luggage room. You can't carry bags for a month's vacation, but there's ample room for a...
