2011 hyundai sonata Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...The SE, with its dual exhaust, has a bit more power at 200 hp and 186 lb-ft. A six-speed manual transmission is standard on the GLS, while a six-speed automatic is optional on that trim and standard on the SE and Limited. A powerful 2.0-liter turbocharged engine is available on SE and Limited trim levels. This engine produces 274 hp and 269 lb-ft of torque. In performance testing, a 2.4-liter GLS Sonata with the automatic transmission accelerated from zero to 60 mph in 8.2 seconds. As expected, the 2.0-liter turbo is significantly quicker, requiring only 6.7 seconds. The Sonata's EPA fuel... |

2011 Hyundai Sonata Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...I still prefer the excellent V-6 engines offered by Honda, Mazda and even the Subaru Legacy over the Sonata, but it’s by a slim margin. Shoppers may be swayed more by the impressive fuel economy numbers tacked on to the solid driving experience. At 22/33 mpg city/highway, it bests its V-6 competition by 3 to 7 highway mpg, and Hyundai's numbers came on regular unleaded gas unlike some other turbo powerplants. Exterior & Interior Styling Save for the standard 18-inch alloy wheels and dual exhaust, there's not much inside or out that differentiates the 2.0T from the non-turbo Sonata. I... |

2011 Hyundai Sonata Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Body lean through sharp turns was also severe. Most drivers aren't likely to take the Sonata to such extremes, but mountain roads proved challenging even at speeds lower than the posted limit. There's a sport-tuned Sonata SE that might prove better in that regard. The 198-horsepower, 2.4-liter four-cylinder engine is plenty powerful, though. It has to be, because no V-6 is offered — though Hyundai will offer a turbocharged four-cylinder with V-6-like power later in 2010. When you accelerate with purpose, the six-speed automatic transmission replies accordingly, and a nice sprint gets you... |

1990 Hyundai Sonata Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...Back to the present. We test-drove the front-wheel- drive 1990 Excel, with its new styling and fuel-injected engine, and the front-wheel-drive 1990 Sonata, which adds a V-6 engine for the new model year. Fuel injection makes a significant difference in the 1.5 liter 4- cylinder. We last drove Excel when carburetion was the order of the day. At best it was sluggish. Injection is a big plus. The fuel-injected 1.5 delivers 81 horsepower. Not exactly a speed merchant, but it`s a noticeable improvement over the 68 horsepower from the carbureted version. The 1.5 is teamed with a... |

2012 Hyundai Sonata Hybrid Professional Cars.com ReviewSource: Cars.com...My test drive took me through Southern California mountains, and the hybrid drivetrain performed well. The hybrid's handling and ride quality are both on the soft side, like the base Sonata. Once you engage Blue mode, though, everything changes. The transmission didn't seem to know what to do on steep inclines, and the engine whined unsettlingly on hilly roads. Then again, hilly terrain isn't where you'd engage this mode; it would be of most use in city traffic and in either congested or wide-open highway stretches. The company says it increases efficiency 5 percent. I was supposed to take a... |

1996 hyundai sonata Professional Edmunds ReviewSource: Edmunds...It seems those days are over. The Sonata GLS we sampled ran nearly $21,500. True, it was well loaded with automatic, sunroof, leather and power everything, but a similarly equipped Contour SE or Chrysler Cirrus is priced less than the Sonata. Considering Hyundai's quality record, we don't find the GLS to be a viable option in this class, particularly since the Contour/Mystique twins are a real kick in the pants to drive. That's not to say that the Sonata isn't a satisfying car. The doors thunk shut nicely, it is quiet and comfortable inside, and the leather makes it feel like a much more... |
