2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid - Review

Performance.
This car drives like a sedan should. It feels confident, more so than the Prius or Insight, though there is stil la subtle sense of the engine being a bit too small for the car, despite its 2.5 L size.

0 to 60 was 9.5 seconds, less than the 10.5 seconds of the third generation Prius.

Ride and Handling
The car particularly excelled in this area. It was a solid mid-sized car yet handled rather nimbly and briskly. It floated smoothly yet firmly and road bumps weren't noticeable. Turns taken with abandon did not screech the tires. Overall a very fun, comfortable, and confident ride.

Efficiency
Considering the vehicle's appearance, size, weight and performance it was hard to know it was a hybrid. The only thing that tips off the driver is the green leaves on the interface.

This car looked felt and drove like it should get around 25 MPG. Instead it held out around 40 MPG, and with careful driving easily made it to the mid-to-upper 40 MPGs. Aggressive highway driving brought the car down to the mid-30s.  On a roughly 35 MPH 12 mile side street very careful drive I was able to achieve a remarkable 52.7 MPG.

A terrific element was the power of the electric motor. Carefully done in the right setting and with more than half the battery charged, the car could drive electric-only up to 45 MPH. Another particularly nice feature was the size of the gas tank. Its 17 gallons was much greater than the 10 gallons found in other hybrids allowing long driving periods without refueling.

Pricing
Nicely equipped the MSRP is $27,500

Conclusion

/> The Ford Fusion hybrid is a stylish comfortable car that makes you forget its a hybrid. It offers solid performance, exceptional ride and handling and outstanding fuel economy for a car this size and performance at a reasonable price.  The trade-off for its size comfort and performance is it can't achieve the extreme fuel efficiency of the 2010 Prius.

  1. I have driven a Prius for 2 years now. I regularly get 47 mpg, on the highway 56. I think it's beautiful. So it beats the new ones. Yay!

  2. I would have liked a few more spec's about weight, battery, dash and indicators, etc.

  3. Nice job, Lyle. Ford has a winner regardless of what the Prius lovers have to say. If I were in the market for a new car, I would certainly give the Fusion Hybrid a good look. I just wish GM could have developed a car like the Fusion Hybrid along with the Volt. But, water under the bridge, I suppose.

  4. Prius and Fusion are not direct competitors. We wanted a quiet refined car. Fusion fits that bill better than Prius, Insight or Civic, has more personality, is more fun to drive and interact with. We love its refined interior, solid structure and normal driving dynamics. It's much roomier than our last compact car and beats the mileage significantly. We average 35mpg, despite full options. Our quick short trips may affect top mileage attainment. Longer juants yield 40mpg plus. Very happy so far.

  5. proid owner of a 2010 fusion hybrid and absolutely love this car! i was an avid saturn enthusiast and didn't ever want to drive a sedan... but with a one-year old son and wanting a hybrid, i looked and could not be more pleased with what we found. the car looks like a car and not a golf cart. the dashboard is stylish and very useful. the pickup is great. all around wonderful car!

  6. Is there any chance of a wagon variant of the Fusion?
I drive a hatchback now, and getting a bigger car doesn't seem like it would allow me to carry more stuff if I have to try to fit it into the trunk...

  7. I've test driven the 2010 Ford Fusion Hybrid, and must admit that I am in love. The vehicle is well made, economical, and thoughtfully designed. If I could afford to purchase a new automobile today, the Fusion Hybrid would be choice number one.
