Hypermilling aside, the journalist who took part in the test drives acheived great fuel economy numbers. All of the journalists that took part in the MPG Challenge acheived at least 60 mpg and the winner of the challenge posted numbers of 68.8 mpg. The 68.8 mpg acheived by the Insight drivers still falls short of the 70 plus mpg acheieved during recent drives of the new 2010 Prius. Reviewers praised the Insight for its isolating cabin and refinements over previous models. Stating that the hybrid system is seamlessly integrated into the vehicle and surging is non apparent. The new Insight model has seating for five passeneger unlike the outgoing model which could only seat two. The back seat is best left for children as space is extremely tight.
The new Insight features a refined interior with typical Honda quality throughout. Materials and design are top rate and praised by most reviewers.
The 2010 Honda Insight offers a low priced hybrid to the masses. Starting below $20,000, the Insight is powered by a 1.3 liter 4 cylinder engine that makes 88 hp and is paired with a DC motor that contributes an additional 13 hp and 58 lb.-ft of torque. The Insight's electric motor is powered by a nickely metal hydride battery pack. The Insight is priased for its low price and high value in the hybrid market.
The 2010 Honda Insight went on sale ahead of schedule in the U.S. on March 24th. Honda has set pricing for the base model at $19,800. Honda expects to sell 200,000 Insights worldwide each year with 90,000 slated for the U.S. market.
