Any insanely alluring, attractive, enticing car will likely see dealer markups when it first goes on sale.

Ask any potential buyer of a new Chevy Corvette or Dodge Hellcat model how much their dealership added to the sticker price for the first ones on the lot.

And the same applied as well to the sexy, startling, technically advanced BMW i8 plug-in hybrid sport coupe.

As enthusiast site BMW Blog notes, the i8 is now starting to sell at sticker price in the U.S.

While demand still exceeds supply, the fever appears to be wearing off--perhaps as a result of BMW saying in April it would double i8 production due to continued buyer interest.

BMW Blog cites an i8 production slot in June advertised by JMK BMW in Springfield Township, New Jersey, that's now being offered at the Manufacturer's Suggested Retail Price, or MSRP, of $135,700.

That compares to reports of five-figure add-ons for the very first i8s to reach dealers last fall.

The BMW i8 remains both a striking design, technically a 2+2 although no adult will ever ride in the tiny rear seats stuffed into its carbon-fiber reinforced plastic body shell.

Its doors rise up like bird wings from hinges on the windshield pillars, and the styling language that blends a swoopy shape with unusual details like airflow "tunnels" over the rear lights between the rear hatch and the tops of the fenders.

A 231-horsepower turbocharged 1.5-liter three-cylinder engine sits between the rear wheels, producing 236 lb-ft of torque and powering them through a six-speed direct-shift gearbox.

Separately, a large 96-kilowatt (131-hp) electric motor powers the front wheels--meaning the i8 can be driven electrically by its front wheels, in gasoline-hybrid mode by its rear wheels, or in all-wheel drive when both powertrains are engaged at once.

BMW quotes a maximum output of 362 hp, and a 0-to-62-mph time of just 4.4 seconds. The EPA rates its electric range at 15 miles, and its fuel-economy in range-extending mode as 28 mpg combined.

While some owners will use that performance, we suspect others will just enjoy the intense public interest in the car, with hordes of onlookers gathering to record video or shoot selfies with the raised doors.

Now that enjoyment will come a little closer to sticker price.
