BMW's X5 eDrive plug-in hybrid isn't due in production form until 2015, but the German automaker has unveiled an updated version of the Concept X5 eDrive at the New York Auto Show.

First shown at last September's Frankfurt Auto Show, the latest Concept displays a host of small refinements to bring the car even closer to its production-ready stage.

It's hard to see those refinements from the outside, where the Concept looks more or less like any other BMW X5.

BMW has chosen light blue to denote its electrified offerings, and you'll find this shade on the new chrome strips in the traditional BMW kidney grille, air intake bars, and an insert on the rear bumper.

There's also a set of body-colored wheel arches, some specially styled roof rails, and 21-inch aerodynamic alloy wheels.

Most of the Concept's updates can be found in the cabin. The white leather seats, door cards and dashboard panels are stitched in the same light blue color as the exterior details.

Light blue can also be found in several accent strips around the cabin, on embossed headrest logos, interior ambient lighting, and the blue glow of the car's eDrive button.

Under the hood you'll find the car's production-ready powertrain, as fitted to the prototype X5 eDrive we recently drove.

A 245-horsepower, 2.0-liter turbocharged gasoline engine shares duties with a 70 kW (95-horsepower) electric motor.

Together, they provide enough urge for a 7-second 0-60 mph dash, but the electric motor alone can take the car up to 75 mph.

BMW suggests the car is capable of 61.8 mpg on the combined European cycle, though this is typically higher than its EPA equivalent. The same goes for its 20-mile electric range, but in the real world the car's drivetrain will operate with a mix of electric-only, hybrid and gas-only modes.

Drivers can of course choose these modes themselves, as well as utilizing a SAVE mode, holding battery charge for urban driving.

BMW features like ECO PRO and Proactive Driving Assistant offer other ways of saving energy on the daily commute. The latter helps pick the most efficient route based on driving conditions and traffic profiles.

The BMW X5 eDrive is expected to make its debut in late 2015. In the meantime, head over to our New York Auto Show page for more galleries and news from the show.
