Solid - Best car in the snow ever!
Source: Cars.com

..."I love my 98 impreza hatchback. The one thing I can complain about is the rust.
I've had to put a lot of body work into this vehicle to keep it stickered. The engine is as solid as day one after 200,000+. Throw some studded snows on it and you could drive anywhere."...

Subaru automatic transmission only
Source: Cars.com

..."Really like the car and the price point, but Subaru should not be producing cars with manual transmissions,
because getting this car to shift into reverse is almost impossible (it helps if you grid your teeth).
Even Authorized Subaru Dealership diagnosed as normal shifting.... I've talked to other Subaru owners with the same problem. I would only recommend a Subaru to a friend with automatic transmission."...

..."this is the one car that i would recommend to anyone that plans on driving in snow!! it also gets great gas milage for being awd"...

A fun Drive
Source: Cars.com

..."Went looking for a car for my 100 mile round trip highway commute.
Needed to be fuel efficient (better milage than my truck), handle winter driving (AWD), be an automatic (so my wife could drive it) and be fun to drive (30 yr Porsche driver).
This car meets all those requirements and more. I'm loving driving this car even in the snow storms.
Handling's great, the turbo gets it moving (same hoursepower as my 2002 Boxster), the auto sport feature still gives me control, all with a nice style.
I did my homework, and over all I made the right choice."...

All-wheel+soild build=great value
Source: Cars.com

..."Have the 2.5i sedan with the premium package. If you want all wheel drive and don't have A4 dollars to spend, this is the most bang for your buck you are going to get.
The handling of AWD and the safety of the VDC make this an easy choice.
The 4 speed auto needs an upgrade and I can see a CVT transmision finding its way to the next Impreza generation.
But it does the job. The stereo is fine, not great.
A bit too much plastic on the doors, and the rear looks a bit bland on the sedan. Overall I average about 23 MPG. Moving a 3113 pound AWD vehicle those numbers are to be...

A pretty gas guzzler!
Source: Edmunds

...I got this vehicle based on the Subaru reputation for safety and reliability.
It's safe, alright, but it has been a money pit for me maintenance and fuel- wise.
I commute 90 miles a day, and I average 23-25 MPH on the highway.
And, hope you never have to replace a tire-- due to the AWD you'll need to replace all four. It looks pretty standing, but is a gas guzzler! I won't buy another one or recommend it...

Love is a strong word...
Source: Cars.com

...This connects directly into the head-unit and can be controlled by the stearing wheel volume and track channels. The interface cord is nicely hidden in the center console/arm rest. Totally wire-free (view) and direct access to my whole collection - amazing! If I were to nit-pick, I would say the auto-transmission could use some refinement. I find it drops into both 2nd and 3rd too soon, leaving you searching for a power band...making the auto stick a neccesity for freeway on-ramps etc. The front seats sit too low, which is not a problem for the driver, since it has an adjustable height lever...

Surprisingly fun
Source: Edmunds

...This car replaced a beloved 2001 VW Golf GLS 1.8t. I was hoping to find something as fun and comfortable as the VW,
but with AWD to get me up our steep Vermont hills in winter in the places where the VW failed to make progress.
The Outback Sport has turned out to be much more entertaining than I expected.
It doesn't have quite the zip of the VW turbo, but it's plenty fast.
The biggest surprise was the excellent steering and handling: quite an improvement over the somewhat squishy VW.
The next biggest surprise was the fuel economy; I'm getting 28 on average, and as...

Forget Honda And Toyota
Source: Cars.com

...The 5spd has grunt as it is very hard to stall and still has lots of fun to offer the experienced manual driver. Drive down the road and you will wonder if the car is running, this car is amazingly quiet! Very minimal tire noise you can use your speaker phone mode w/ ease. The radio is ample, not a lot of bass here but you don't need it to cover up that road noise like other cars. Techies the ipod upgrade is wonderful, worth the extra money. Take a turn or go from a dead stop around a turn and you will be impressed. Handling is very impressive due to the awd and prowertrain setup. The seats...
