What's the EPA doing to ensure the accuracy of its gas-mileage ratings?

And, which kinds of cars will really compete with the hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles coming onto the market soon?

This is our video look back at the Week In Reverse--right here at Green Car Reports--for the week ending on Friday, October 24, 2014.

Our Friday story suggested that cross-country trips in electric cars are getting closer to reality for more and more drivers.

Thursday, we noted that Mercedes-Benz maker Daimler had sold all of its Tesla stock--adding $780 million to its books in the process. The next day, Toyota confirmed it had sold some of its Tesla holdings too.

On Wednesday, we described what you might call a "combo combo" DC quick charging station for electric cars. The Tesla Supercharger site in Dorno, Italy, actually can charge using Supercharger, CHAdeMO, or CCS standards--possibly a world first!

Tuesday, we published a piece suggesting that the most likely competition to upcoming hydrogen fuel-cell vehicles wasn't battery-electric cars, but in fact plug-in hybrids.

The same day, we learned that next year, we'll see plug-in hybrid versions of the new Hyundai Sonata and Kia Optima mid-size sedans. They'll compete with the Toyota Prius Plug-In Hybrid, the Ford Fusion Energi, and others.

We opened the work week on Monday with news that the EPA will tighten its gas-mileage test procedures, closing a loophole and requiring carmakers to test more production models to confirm the results they get from early prototypes.

On Sunday, we discovered a new and greener spiritual successor to the famous Volkswagen Westfalia camper van: a Nissan e-NV200 electric minivan with the same popup top.

Sadly, Nissan's electric van isn't sold here, yet, so the conversion is actually from a firm in the U.K.

Finally, from three days of intensive driving of all our Best Car To Buy 2015 candidates this week, we wrote about our quick drive of the 2015 Hyundai Sonata Eco, the most fuel-efficient non-hybrid model in the mid-size sedan range.

We'll have a lot more about that Best Car To Buy award, starting as soon as next week.
