What can we learn?

Electric Cars Charging in Norway

Electric Cars Charging in Norway

Because of Norway’s perks for electric car drivers, it isn’t just car drivers concerned about the environment that are driving electric cars.

Instead, many electric car buyers are influenced by the financial benefits, which easily outweigh the more expensive sticker price.

Norway’s attitude to electric cars is focused almost exclusively on incentives, proving that most consumers favor their wallet above any misconceptions they may have about electric cars.

Backed up by a healthy charging network, Norway has helped reduce range anxiety at the same time, making electric car charging ubiquitous in every major parking lot.

Cities, counties and states take note: encouraging electric car adoption isn’t difficult.

Build the incentives, and electric cars will come...

  1. Who said tax incentives don't work? Lower the taxes. Heck, eliminate them. That's where we were before 1913 anyway.

  2. I would point to Denmark as a similar situation - you don't have to drive very far, very often. Ditto for Israel and Hawaii. Since electrics are small, I doubt whether each owner gets all that much of a price break. And the number of charging stations is not a factor in determining whether one can reasonably take long distance trips - that depends upon recharge times and driving ranges and the amount one can spend for the necessary batteries.

  3. You harping about battery cost is like GM harping about range anxiety. It is an excuse or a scare tactic that really is not working in you favor. Check the price of batteries in China and then check the price after they send them here. Makes your eyes bug out doesn't it? We can build batteries for a fraction of the cost it takes China to send theirs to us. We can harvest 1,400,000 tons of lithium a year from our geothermal power plants, so why aren't we? Do you think it is because there are some companies in America that don't want to see electric cars revived?

  4. That's my boys, those smart Norwegians. Americans could learn a lot from studying Norwegians.

  5. Ah...yes...environmentally friendly Norway. Norway is a very wealthy country...because of BIG OIL! Norway is one of the largest oil producers in the world! This article tells me that Norway's world view is "good enough for thee, but not for me" This is also the country that awarded our Fuehrer-in-Chief an unearned Nobel Prize. How's that for perspective on Norway?

  6. Maybe we should be looking to Denmark, then, with its large portion of energy coming from renewables.

  7. Exxon, the richest company in the world. The U.S. also produces oil. Doesn't the U.S. use the most oil?
Just like every country, I don't believe Norway has just one world view regarding oil production and consumption amongst all of its people.
