Nissan has always been particular in who it choses to associate with its all-electric Leaf, but its latest superstar signing is quite literally a shining example of what it means to be a leader in the world of green cars.

Enter Canadian actor Ryan Reynolds. The 34-year old star of Green Lantern - the big-screen interpretation of the classic DC Comics title which premieres on Friday, June 17 - is already a Nissan Leaf owner and has just been signed in a partnership with Nissan to promote its Innovation for Endurance fitness program.

Part of Nissan’s ongoing sales push for the NIssan Leaf, the Innovation for Endurance campaign also features Olympic athlete Tara Stiles and cyclist Levi Leipheimer.

Complete with its own Facebook microsite as well as heavy promotion through other media outlets, Innovation for Endurance  is ran by global media company Rodale Inc., and is designed to encourage fans to get fit using the latest innovations in training, equipment and coaching.

“We’re ecstatic to have Ryan Reynolds join us as the newest face in the Innovation for Endurance program,” said Brian Carolin, senior vice president, sales and marketing for Nissan North America. “He believes in the Nissan Leaf and knows the important impact it will have on the environment.”

Reynolds is the latest in Nissan’s group of EV-advocates, including world-champion cyclist Lance Armstrong and Robert Downey Jr., star of the Iron Man amongst other films.

While there’s no mention of Reynolds being involved with a television commercial for the Leaf, we can’t expect Nissan to let Reynolds’ involvement with the Leaf pass without the obvious 30 second spot.

“In Brightest day, in blackest night, No evil shall escape my sight.

Let those who worship gasoline’s might, Beware my power...”

Or maybe not. Either way, we think Reynolds advertising of the 2011 and 2012 Nissan Leaf has to be a little more macho than his previous advertising gig, extolling the virtues of drinking milk with Harry Potter star Rupert Grinch.
