The Honda Civic is one of the best-known and best-selling compact cars in the U.S. market.

And it's just been entirely redesigned.

For all the details, you'll have to wait until Wedneday, April 20, when the full line of 2012 Honda Civic models will be unveiled at the New York Auto Show.

But we're headed for an advance preview and a chance to drive the whole line tomorrow. Regrettably, we're not allowed to write a single thing about the cars until the 20th.

However, we're happy to act as your humble servants and ask the Honda execs any questions you'd care to provide on the topic of the 2012 Civic lineup.

So far, we know that the production vehicles are likely to be quite close to the two concept cars Honda displayed at the Detroit Auto Show in January.

And Honda has already said there'll be a high-fuel efficiency version of the 2012 Civic, the HF, that'll get the magical 40-mpg highway gas mileage rating from the EPA.

The 2012 Civic HF will compete with the 2012 Chevrolet Cruze Eco and a version of the 2012 Ford Focus, along with all 2011 Hyundai Elantra models. All of them are rated at 40 or more mpg on the highway.

There will also be a redesigned 2012 Honda Civic Hybrid, this one using the brand's first-ever lithium-ion battery pack, which is smaller and lighter than the earlier nickel-metal-hydride packs used in all Honda hybrids so far.

In any case, let us know what you want to know about the new 2012 Honda Civic line.

  2. I have a few questions:
    1. Will Honda replace the outdated navigation/audio system found in current models with one that is more advanced and more like Ford Sync? The new Honda Odyssey has a new system that accepts "song by voice" and has bluetooth streaming. A better system would be nice to compete with the new systems in the Ford Focus.
    2. Can the new Civic Hybrid operate on electric only for brief periods? The current gen Civic Hybrid could shut down valves during motion and allow for electric assist to give a mild EV only operation Will the new Civic Hybrid improve upon this method?

  4. 1.How does Honda’s see its current line up in particularly the new Civic today stack up against the Korean rivals in its offerings?
    2.Where are Honda cars going?
It seems to have the looks with the recent models as seen with the Civic and CR-Z; but the overall package doesn’t seem to quiet live up to its purpose
    3. Any chance Honda will have a family theme design?
Such as Mazda and many other car manufacturers
If so, will we see CR-Z‘s current front design be translated as a distinct look for Honda cars, it looks exciting, and yet it has the most classic styling cues of Honda cars.
    4. What is happening with Acura? Will it depart further from Honda’s current car’s line up associations? (Such as the Legend, Crosstour and Euro Accord) move further up market? go international as it had planned?
May not be the most relevant, but love know the answers

  6. What are the Cd numbers for the new models?
Has Honda used any of their racing R&D to do significant weight reduction?
Are they going to build a plugin version of their hybrids?

  7. Q's:
    1. What was the rationale to switch the 2.4L in the Si?
    2. Why a 5AT vs. a CVT in the new HF model?
    3. Will a 6AT make an appearance in the 9G's product cycle?
    4. How was the time used in the product delay to improve the product?
    5. Is Mendel's reference to another future body style a 5-door hatchback or wagon?

  8. Production pics can be seen at netcarshow.com under Honda. What an immense disappointment. As the owner of a 2009 Civic Hybrid (also owned a 2006 Hybrid), I can honestly say if this were offered back in 2006, I wouldn't have considered this for the most fleeting of moments. Where's the cohesiveness in design? This looks like a step backward to me. What's with the cheap looking solid black panel at the base of the A pillar? Clearly the front door glass can retract without the integrated glass splitter. I honestly think Honda's designers are balls-out out of ideas, throwing anything they can against the wall hoping it'll stick. First the bloated Pilot, the confounding CrossTour, the confused CR-Z... My Civic will most assuredly be the last Honda I buy. Sad, because the quality is beyond reproach, it's just not enough to keep me interested. Maybe they should lure Hyundai/Kia's designers away. Oh, how I long for the sleek, airy, and purposeful Hondas of the late 80's. Now THAT was a car company that had their sh!t together.

  9. Question??
What is the coldest operating temperature of the compressed natural gas civic (-30) or what? Is is a viable option for say States Like Minnesota with cold winters?
Will this generation ever bring in a Diesel to North America?

  10. Why didn't they put a smaller more efficient engine in the HF? Like the 1.5l without the hybrid powertrain? Why are they not going with a six speed manual in all civics? Why should I continue to buy honda over all the other competition?

  11. 1. Will Honda ever consider putting in a turbo in the Si? With all the turbo cars on the market, I'd like to know why they're so afraid to do so. I've heard it said before that it's due to price but clearly VW can do it in, say, the GTI, for about the same amount of money.
    2) Why does Honda insist on the 2 tiered dash, and only in the Civic? If they believe in it so much, why didn't they put it in the Accord? Also, and we won't really know until 4/20, but will the Si's dash be more sporty than the regular Civic, beyond, say, just making it red (I'm keeping my fingers crossed)?
    3) Any chance of in the future losing the Civic Si and instead resurrecting the Prelude? This way, the styling, both inside and out, can be independent.
