Mercedes-Benz SLS AMG E-Cell at Silvretta E-Rally

At the renowned Silvretta Classic Rally in Montafon, Austria, 24 electric cars drove amongst the vintage cars that typically compete in this mountain race.

The rally, cutting through the Austrian Alps, is demanding for the drivers and cars alike. The initial lineup of cars runs across the gamut, from concept cars to production vehicles.

Mercedes-Benz sent three electric vehicles from its fleet: The 2011 Smart Electric Drive, a Mercedes-Benz B-Class F-Cell (using a fuel cell to generate electric power), and its latest edition, the SLS AMG E-Cell electric supercar.

The Silvretta E-Rally was won by an Audi R8 e-Tron.

  1. The F-cell is a waste of time. Fuel cells and hybrids won't even matter when the next generation of batteries come to market. Even now full electrics are better than hybrids and fuel cells are useless for 98% of the world.
