Since the replacement of the Protégé, Mazda has been experiencing pretty good success with its zoom-zoom appeal in the replacement Mazda3 model. As the car has evolved the styling has gotten a little more…smiley you might say. Yes, we are referring to the fairly large grill in the front, but all in all the styling cues on the Mazda3 are sporty and appealing in the market. At least, we think so here in the States and apparently our neighbors to the north agree.

Yes, the latest news is that the Mazda3 is becoming more popular than the Honda Civic in Canada. The report comes from three Canadian sources: Auto North, Canadian Driver and The Globe. Basically, their analysis shows that the Mazada3 is sitting just ahead of the Honda Civic in year to date sales—103 units to be exact. So does this mean that Canadian buyers are trading in the more reserved appearance of the Honda Civic for the more exciting (to some) Mazda3? It is probably to early to say that the trend actually exists, but if I were Mazda I would be pleased to be ahead of the game as we come to the close of second quarter.

Bottom line—If you haven’t checked out the Mazda line of cars, then you might be missing out on some very reliable and enjoyable cars. If you are looking for speed or zoom-zoom, then the MazdaSpeed3 should be a must on your test drive list.

Check out our take on the potent and affordable MazdaSpeed3 here.
