The problem with the TDI is that you don't realize the power it has and you often find yourself cruising along at speeds more appropriate for the Autobahn than the Interstate.

As long as you dont mind the smell of diesel when you fill up, the TDI makes no special requests. It started quickly even in the sub-freezing cold this week, is quieter than you would expect, and with the extra insulation in the firewall and hood liner, you would never know that you're driving a diesel.

Other positives are that the Golf TDI does not need fuel additives at refueling or the more frequent maintenance intervals that some diesels require.

In the snow, the Golf's anti-slip regulation (ASR) and electronic stabilization program (ESP) team up to make the best of available traction. I had no difficulty driving in icy conditions this week near Denver heading up I-70 into the mountains, and that was with regular all-season tires.

The Golf is rock solid at speed, corners with virtually no noticeable body roll, changes direction quickly and has very communicative steering for a front-wheel drive car.

The ride is comfortable for a small car and absorbs bumps and ruts with ease. It's also very quiet at speed, with wind noise around the mirrors only becoming noticeable at high speeds.

The VW Golf has been a practical, economical, mode of transportation in Europe for decades. Due to a lack of excitement in the Golf (formerly known as the Rabbit), here, it drifted out of the mainstream minds of US buyers.

With a $21,990 starting price, the excellent fuel economy of the diesel, sharp looks, and the responsive driving characteristics, the new Golf TDI will be a car people are going to want to buy.

  1. I've had my Golf TDI for three weeks. Its an absolutely awesome car. I had never driven a diesel before, or used DSG. I love them both. Coming from the traditional autobox I can just put it into D mode and feel at home. The DSG shifts incredibly smooth and fast, it's incredible. The paddle shifters can make for some fun, I'm still getting comfortable with mine.
The whole "diesel is slow" thing is crazy. Maybe it's slow when you put it in a giant truck and have it tow a few tons of crap up a hill, in the Golf diesel is a rocket at your command. You put the go pedal to the floor and your back will be comfortably pressed into the very nice seats. It's such a blast to drive! It handles incredibly, even at high speeds you don't feel like a sudden lane change is going to be any different than any other sudden lane change. The car just feels solid. Gun it hard through some turns, it doesn't let go. Of course you don't have to drive it hard to enjoy it,
I do an hour commute regularly and it is perfect, the inside is very classy and well done. It's easily comparable to a luxury brand. The seats are very comfortable, I've only sat in seats more comfortable ones and those were in a highend BMW. VW totally nailed the seats in these cars. My favorite feature for them is the heating that comes with the cold weather package. After a long day in the office it's nice to have a comfortable heated seat to drive home in.

  4. 1800 miles so far on my GOLF TDI. Great car, fun to drive economical, quiet and comfortable. The engine torque is seductive and unexpected. I'm getting 40+ mpg in mixed driving. Love the handling. My previous car was an Infiniti G35 and this shifts smoother and is equally fun to drive. Not quite as quick of course but quick enough. I've you've ever thought about owning a diesel sedan this is the one to look at. Unfortunate that these are as rare as Unicorns though.

  6. Advantages of Using a Prepaid Credit Card
There are many benefits to using a prepaid credit card. A prepaid credit, also known as a secured credit card is defined by bank rate as a credit card that, “…requires a cash collateral deposit that becomes the credit line for that account
